Life is a Spiritual Struggle
In this life story, the man was a teacher in elementary school I'm guessing, in an area that was some what poor. Was he learning to fight in case anything were to ever happen when he was alone in the city, or was he learning to fight just for his personal benefit? This was a question that I was stuck on throughout the story. This story is telling us not only is he educated to teach students, but he is also educated in fighting. He must have continued his schooling because the end suggested he went on to gain a doctorate.
Admittance to a Better Life
In this life story, there is a change in lifestyle in this mans life. He describes how he grew up and now compares himself to what he is now to what he used to be. There is certainly a great difference when he says he is spending time in the libraries reading novels compared to his friends that were either in jail or dead. Also he mentions not knowing anything about grammer after he wrote a poem that was published. He decided to go back to school to learn more. This shows that you can be above the places you live in. You can go out and do better for yourself if you really want to.
This I Believe
In this article, a person describes the stuggles their grandmother went through from a child until now. She had no money, was not educated, but moved away to try and get a better life. Looking back on what she has accomplished, speaking 5 languages and working with numbers, is a great achievement. This again shows that maybe all you need to do is move to a new place with new people to expand your horizon. Maybe getting out of where you started because that place was holding you back from your full potential.
